How to wear – POLKA DOTS
HOW TO WEAR: POLKA DOTS
Wearing polka dots can be a bit of a challenge, especially for those who aren’t used to taking fashion risks. Guess what, those days are over!
- Accessorize: As usual, rather than shy away from any trend, our motto is start small. If you’re still a bit wary of going head-on polka, incorporate it into your outfit via accessories such as scarves, sunglasses, handbags/purses or even shoes. This allows you remain confident and comfortable in your outfit and show off that sassy side of you.
- Wear with a single solid colour: If you’re still a newbie in the polka dot department, a good way to tone it down and keep it from being overpowering is to wear it with a solid color e.g. black, white, blue, red, etc.
-
Two-tone it: Keep your polka dot outfit to a maximum of 2 colors. For instance, if you’re wearing a white shirt with red polka dots, you should either wear white or red bottoms. This isn’t a rule neither is it cast in stone, it just creates a nice and cohesive outfit that’s very pleasing to the eye.
- Mix with other prints: Definitely not for the lily-livered, wear your dots with another print or even 2 different sizes of polka dots if you’re feeling adventurous. If you’re not, try it once and see; afterall, fashionistas take risks.
- Size It Up: Depending on your personality, sticking to one size of polka dots can really express to the world the type of fashionista you are. Tiny dots are reminiscent the vintage lovers you’d find outside a cafe, sipping on lemon tea with a hat on their head and the sun on their skin with a novel in their hands, while the larger polka style is more often the pick of the big city girl who’s used to the fast-paced life, you’ll find her shaking her body to the latest Rihanna song and sipping a martini from the glass in her hand. Lol. Which of these girls are you?
And that’s all folks.
Hope you’re ready to whip out those polka dot outfits that you hid at the bottom of your wardrobe and try out one of these tips.
