This year saw a lot of stripes on the runway, from big players like Prada to Miu Miu, top designers reintroduced us to this hot trend and we don’t see it going away anytime soon. Which is why I still don’t understand why some people say they can’t wear stripes or that stripes aren’t meant to be worn by all body shapes. Girl, don’t let anyone lie to you; you can pull it off, you just need to know how.
- Vertical Stripes: If you’re a bit fuller on the body, wear stripes that go down your body (vertical) and not across your body (horizontal); they give the appearance of a slimmer frame and make you look taller too. Wear with heels and you’re one step closer to achieving that leggy blonde look that every girl strives for.
- Statement Piece: If you’ve not too keen on a full-on stripe outfit or you’re looking to play with this trend in the safest possible way, choose only one striped small but statement piece. For instance, a pair of stripped heels or tote will spice up an otherwise plain or monotonous outfit.
Add some Color to it: Whether with color blocking or just wearing stripes in different colours, throwing in a bit of colorful stripes in the mix makes the outfit so much chic-er and transforms it into that “IT” Girl look.
- Mix and Match: Stripes are so fun and are literally screaming out to be played with; wear them with other prints such as polka dots or even florals, or if you want to play it safe, mix teeny tiny stripes with bigger ones.
- Wear with Neutrals: Sometimes, with stripes on, you feel like a walking billboard or a traffic light maybe, yes? Tone down with neutrals such as a white cami if you’re wearing striped pants, or a black circle skirt when you’re wearing a striped blazer. This will help you feel more comfortable in your outfit. Not sure where to start from? You can shop some of the yummiest striped outfits on the Debra’s Grace online store www.debrasgrace.com
